Our Purpose

The purpose of Refugees & Immigrants Week is to build and strengthen relationships among people from all over the world while creating a positive and lasting impact in our new home. The week serves as a bridge—connecting cultures, generations, and communities through shared values, creativity, and dialogue.

Refugees & Immigrants Week is one of the most culturally diverse community events, bringing together participants who share common values while fostering both local and international connections. It provides a space to learn from one another, celebrate resilience, and honor the rich heritage that refugees and immigrants bring to our communities.

RIW Talent Show 2024 Highlights

The RIW Talent Show 2024 was a powerful reflection of the diversity, creativity, and excellence within our communities. Artists from different backgrounds and disciplines took the stage, delivering performances that were energetic, emotional, and deeply inspiring. The show welcomed audiences into a dynamic cultural experience that crossed borders, languages, and artistic styles.

Talent Show Categories

The event featured a wide range of categories, including:

  • Music

  • Dance

  • Spoken Word & Poetry / Special Talents

  • Fashion and Fashion Showcase

Each category celebrated unique forms of self-expression and honored both traditional and contemporary artistry.

Performances

The evening featured a rich lineup of performances that reflected global influences and personal storytelling. Audiences experienced socially conscious and alternative hip-hop that emphasized positivity and family values, powerful spoken word poetry that explored intimacy, love, and lived experience, and emotionally resonant poetic pieces that invited reflection and healing.

Vocal performances blended R&B, soul, and global sounds, including influences from African and contemporary music scenes. Dance performances brought high energy to the stage, showcasing rhythm, precision, and cultural movement rooted in East African traditions and modern styles. Fashion elements added visual storytelling, highlighting creativity, identity, and cultural pride through style and presentation.

Together, the performances created an atmosphere of celebration, unity, and appreciation for the depth of talent within refugee and immigrant communities.

Winners & Recognition

The RIW Talent Show 2024 also recognized outstanding performances across categories. Winners received trophies and cash prizes in acknowledgment of their excellence, dedication, and artistic impact. The 2024 winners were:

  • Reina Lopez

  • Dalamaree Holman

  • Wakati Ally

Their performances stood out for creativity, skill, and connection with the audience, and we celebrate their achievements with pride.

Closing Reflection

The RIW Talent Show 2024 was more than an entertainment event—it was a celebration of identity, resilience, and shared humanity. By creating space for refugee and immigrant voices to shine, the talent show reinforced the core values of Refugees & Immigrants Week: empowerment, equity, and cultural pride. We are grateful to all performers, attendees, volunteers, and partners who made this event a success and helped us continue building a strong, inclusive, and vibrant community.
