Cultivating Roots: The Congolese Health Board Builds Community Through Gardening

Seattle, WA – While some spent the weekend indoors, the Congolese Health Board (CHB) was out in full force, bringing families together through their vibrant community garden project.

With support from the Port of Seattle, CHB hosted a hands-on event promoting cultural and organic food growing, not just as a gardening activity but as a way to reconnect with heritage, strengthen community ties and promote sustainability.

Children and parents rolled up their sleeves to plant, learn and laugh together, turning soil into opportunity. For CHB, each seed planted is a gesture of hope, wellness and cultural pride.

“This is about more than just vegetables, it’s about growing together.”

The garden day was filled with joy, shared stories and a collective sense of purpose. The Congolese Health Board looks forward to harvesting the fruits of this effort and sharing them with the wider community.
