Last week marked a particularly meaningful chapter for a local youth program, as participants engaged in a series of activities centered on healing, mentorship, and personal development.
At the heart of the week was the program’s monthly Healing Circle, led by youth navigator Ron Howell. With more than two decades of experience in youth engagement, violence prevention, and restorative justice, Howell brought both expertise and empathy to the space—qualities that resonated deeply with the young people in attendance.
The session provided a structured yet open environment where participants could share their experiences, reflect on personal challenges, and engage in honest dialogue. Drawing on techniques such as mediation, de-escalation, and mental health support, Howell guided discussions that emphasized accountability, resilience, and the possibility of change.
For many of the youth involved, the journey is complex. Some are newly arrived in the United States, navigating unfamiliar cultural and social landscapes, while others are working to overcome past challenges and build more stable futures. Organizers say spaces like the Healing Circle are critical in helping participants feel supported and understood.
Beyond structured sessions, the program continues to offer mentorship, leadership development, and a sense of belonging—elements seen as essential to long-term success. The week concluded on a lighter note, with outdoor activities at a local park, where younger participants joined in games that reinforced teamwork and camaraderie.
Program leaders emphasize that these moments—both reflective and recreational—play a vital role in shaping confident, connected young people. As the initiative grows, its mission remains clear: to provide not just activities, but a foundation for healing, growth, and opportunity.
