Past Community Faces Award Recipients

The Community Faces Award is an annual recognition hosted by the Congolese Integration Network (CIN) to honor outstanding community members who demonstrate leadership, resilience, and meaningful impact.

Each year, we select the recipient with the highest number of nominations in each category. Award recipients are honored during one of our end-of-year celebrations in December, where they are presented with a trophy of recognition. Depending on organizational capacity and available resources, additional prizes may also be awarded to celebrate their contributions and continued impact in the community.

This page highlights and celebrates the individuals who have been recognized in previous years for their exceptional service and dedication to strengthening our community.

2024

Berthe Mbuyambuya was recognized as the 2024 Community Faces Award recipient for her exceptional generosity, leadership, and commitment to supporting families in need. During a critical time when our shelter program was still in the process of launching, she made a remarkable contribution by opening her church to provide temporary housing for 30 families for one month.

Her willingness to respond to urgent community needs created immediate safety and stability for families who had nowhere else to go. This act of compassion not only provided shelter but also demonstrated true community leadership, sacrifice, and solidarity.

Berthe’s impact was deeply felt across the community, and her contribution remains a powerful example of what it means to step up and support others during times of crisis.

2022

The Community Faces Award was launched in 2022 by the Congolese Integration Network (CIN) in partnership with the Washington National Guard as an annual initiative to recognize and uplift individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and commitment to their communities. In its inaugural year, over 50 community members were honored, including nonprofit leaders, community advocates, volunteers, and everyday individuals who were actively making a positive impact through service, advocacy, and support for others.

Since its launch, the Community Faces Award has continued to grow as a meaningful tradition that celebrates community strength, resilience, and collective care. Each year, the award highlights individuals whose contributions often go unrecognized but have a lasting impact on the well-being of families and communities. It serves as a space of appreciation and inspiration, bringing people together to honor those who lead with compassion and help build stronger, more connected communities.
