Refugees & Immigrants Week (RIW) Soccer Tournament 2024

About the Refugees & Immigrants Week Soccer Tournament

The 2024 Refugees & Immigrants Week Soccer Tournament was a powerful and joyful celebration of community, culture, and unity through the universal language of soccer. More than a sporting event, the tournament served as a gathering space where refugees and immigrants came together to honor their heritage, build relationships, and strengthen community bonds.

Soccer played a central role in bringing people together across cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Throughout the tournament, the field became a place of connection, teamwork, and shared pride—reinforcing soccer’s role as a transformative force that promotes belonging, physical wellness, and healthy living. Through each match, participants shared their cultures, learned from one another, and built lasting friendships.

Community Impact

The RIW Soccer Tournament was free, family-friendly, and open to the entire community. Families, youth, elders, and supporters gathered to enjoy an energetic and welcoming atmosphere filled with music, food, refreshments, and cultural celebration. The presence of community leaders and special guests added to the excitement and reinforced the importance of collective celebration.

Building on the success of previous years, the 2024 tournament continued a strong legacy of impact. In prior years, the tournament reached and positively impacted over 300 young men by creating a sense of belonging, teamwork, and purpose. This year’s event expanded that impact by further strengthening unity, promoting positive youth engagement, and offering a safe and inclusive space for expression and connection.
