We provide support to Congolese refugees and immigrants to help increase housing and income stability, address language barriers, access information, and build community and family relations. Through our services and support, our community members gain skills and resources to make successful transitions in the future, lower their risk of homelessness, boost resilience, improve well-being and reduce poverty.

Job Title: Health Integration Interns

Department: Congolese Health Board

Overtime Status: Exempt (not eligible for overtime pay)

Schedule: Full-time, Paid

Duration: Jan 2025 - May 2025

Job Purpose
 

The Health Access Intern will support initiatives to improve health equity and access to healthcare services for underserved communities, including refugees, immigrants, and marginalized populations. This role focuses on assisting with outreach, education, and enrollment efforts to ensure individuals and families are informed about and can access available health resources, insurance options, and culturally appropriate care.

During the internship, the intern will conduct a comprehensive health assessment survey to evaluate the health status of the community. At the end of the internship, they will present a report outlining the survey results and the impact of their work, demonstrating how their efforts contributed to improving the community's overall health.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Health Board team to plan and implement health initiatives.

  • Conduct a health assessment survey and compile results to identify community needs.

  • Enter data accurately into organizational databases for tracking and reporting purposes.

  • Develop tools and resources (e.g., flyers, guides) to assist with health education and outreach.

  • Organize and host information sessions to raise awareness about health resources and services if needed.

  • Provide creative solutions to support community health, such as arranging transportation for appointments and visiting clients at home.

  • Partner with local healthcare providers to expand community access to health services.

  • Track and report progress on health initiatives to the Senior Program Director.

  • Maintain confidentiality and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse populations.

 

Qualifications
Education and Experience

  • Pursuing or completed a degree in Public Health, Social Work, Community Health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Additional certifications in health-related areas (e.g., health education, community outreach) are a plus.

  • Previous experience in community outreach, public health programs, or social services is preferred.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including refugees, immigrants, or underserved communities.

  • Familiarity with conducting surveys, data collection, and reporting.

  • Knowledge of healthcare systems, insurance enrollment processes, and local health resources is an advantage.


Technical Skills
● Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
● Bilingual strongly preferred – fluent English, French, Lingala, Swahili, and/or  Portuguese (not required).
● Valid Washington driver’s license, current automobile insurance, ability to use personal vehicle for home visits and other outside meetings

  11. Ability to adapt to diverse cultural contexts and provide culturally sensitive support.

  12. Strong analytical skills for data collection and reporting.


Working Conditions

  • Office environment: Sitting at a desk with frequent computer and telephone use.

  • Travel: Includes client home visits and meetings with healthcare providers in King County and Pierce County. Use of a personal vehicle might be needed; gas reimbursement is available.


Physical Requirements
Ability to drive and visit clients’ homes and participate in outside meetings. Occasional
lifting up to 20 lbs.


Direct Reports

Reports to the Senior Program Director.

Schedule and Worksite: This position works full-time Monday – Friday during standard business hours. There may be situations where the employee is required to work on the weekend. The supervisor will communicate with the employee. The work location is in person at the CIN office, 7018 Tacoma Mall Blvd ste 202, Tacoma WA 98409
